A selection from massive genealogy of the 'Death Imitates Language' project, containing the first 12.000 specimen, bred by a genetic algorithm, and selected by micro-feedback of the artist.

Mutant Garden Autobreeder

Mutant Garden Seeder consists of 512+1 ever-evolving generative unique Ethereum NFTs by artist Harm van den Dorpel, released in collaboration with Folia in 2021.

Mutant Garden Seeder

32 tokens, gradually released over time, of which the last one is still to be released. Each unique token is animated, coloured, and nested, as a ‘setting’ of a computer programme created by me. A window into aesthetic memories (the final token is to be completed still).

Markov's Dream

A fully on-chain spin-off of Markov's Dream: Orb. Colours, amount of rings, rotation speed and curvature of the rotating nested squircles are determined on mint and remain fixed.

Orb (lite)

100 fully generative on-chain and animated SVG compositions by Harm van den Dorpel. Released in collaboration with Bright Moments.

A new version of Markov's Window from 2004, but now fully on-chain. The collection consists of generative animated recursive SVG files, calculated by Solidity code. This 100 tokens collection has different colour palettes, and employs blending modes and filters to further enhance painterly potentials.

Venster

Struggle for Pleasure

Processed images from metal, grunge & shoegaze memories. An addendum to, or spill over from the Struggle for Pleasure series. Four of these are materialized as wall pieces. Released in collaboration with Verse SOLOS, curated by Leyla Fakhr.

Swallow, only Shallow

Still images, sometimes one-of-one, sometimes in edition

This fullscreen software autosurfs the massive genealogy of the 'Death Imitates Language' project, containing the first 12.000 specimen, bred by a genetic algorithm, and selected by micro-feedback of the artist.

JPGs

Selected editions of generative animations. Artworks were offered in collaborations with left gallery, Upstream Gallery, and Lohaus Sominsky. Some of these were acquired by institutional art collections such as the ZKM Karlsruhe and the Kadist Foundation.

Software

A collection about velocity and perception, created by Harm van den Dorpel in collaboration with Fingerprints DAO & Mercedes-Benz NXT, 2023.

Maschine

Simple operations like mirroring and rotation, akin to minimal music approaches, paradoxically results in intricate, transcendental compositions. Released in collaboration with Verse SOLOS, curated by Leyla Fakhr.

Folia is proud to announce the minting of four seminal works from the catalog of Harm van den Dorpel: Three works from the artist’s “Pixel Sorters” series (2005–2018), Blob.gif, Dansemacabre.gif, and Bison.gif; in addition we will also be minting Lasso.swf. One artist proof has been minted from each.

Pixelsorters

Curated early outputs of the Mutant Garden algorithm.

Protoseeders

Every twelve seconds, a new composition is seeded directly from Ethereum block hashes, synchronizing viewers worldwide in a shared visual experience. The work’s deliberate instability and absence of memory reflect Harm’s broader artistic philosophy, highlighting the inherent impermanence and poetic potential of generative digital art.

Quantizer

Curated Mutations from Mutant Garden Seeder, a derivative project, mintable until pruned, immutably stored on-chain and on Arweave.
