Entfaltung is German for unfolding. I begin with the pendulum drawings of Swiss healer-artist Emma Kunz (1892–1963) and unfold them out of the flat page into space and time. What Kunz fixed on graph paper, I set in motion. It is a living drawing, computed in real time. I pre-render nothing, and it never repeats.

The oldest drawing in the series, based on my analysis of Emma Kunz’s Werk Nr. 172 (undated, coloured pencil on paper, ø 68 cm). I divided a circle into 120 points, three degrees apart. Straight rays run from the centre to every point, and curves run from the top of the circle to each of the other 119 points; together they form the almond shape and the two lobes around it. The plotter drew the rays and curves in pen, and I filled the slivers between them by hand in graphite and coloured pencil.
