Built ad quadratum, the masons’ construction of a square turned inside a square. Four large squares stand on their corners, each with an upright square drawn through the midpoints of its sides, and lines from its four corners to points on the inner square cross into a star. A fifth, smaller square with the same construction sits between them. A vertical band of hourglass shapes, each two triangles meeting at a point, runs the full height of the sheet through the points where the squares touch, and the same motif closes the horizontal axis in a small square at either side. The whole is set inside a double square frame and mirrored on both axes. The plotter drew the lines in pen, partly with a thicker brush pen, and I added pencil by hand.
To me the drawing links the Amsterdam School with esotericism. The title, wending, is a Dutch term from theosophy.
